The Lord of the
Rings
Recently, the Lord gave David
Jackson, a member of our ministry team, a powerful vision that
I'd like to share.
In the vision, he saw
different people with different sized hearts. All the hearts
were cut open revealing rings inside the heart. These rings
were like the rings inside of a tree that date the tree. The
Lord showed David that these rings represented the hunger inside
each person's heart for Him.
What's more, once the hearts
were put back together and placed back into the body from which
they came, the size of the person and the size of the heart
often didn't match at all. Some tiny hearts belonged to large
people - male and female - while some of the largest hearts
belonged to those smallest in stature.
This is a powerful vision for
many reasons. One of the most powerful reasons of all is that
God is tearing down the strongholds that cause us to believe we
are accepted by Him for any reason other than grace.
The rings of a tree can be
used as a "measuring tool." They can measure the age of the tree
and can also be used to identify years of drought or plenty by
the size of the rings. (A factoid generously provided by
another team member, Ronnie Harman.)
God is showing us in this
vision an important measure for the human heart -- the hunger we
have for Him. When He looks at our hearts, He is not looking at
what we have done, what we haven't done, what we could do, what
we should do or any other measure of human effort,
accomplishment or failure. The Lord of
the Rings is interested in our interest in Him.
That is why David, shepherd
boy made king, was a man after God's own heart. God was not
measuring David's heart by how well he kept the rules but by the
hunger within David for the kingdom of God and his Merciful
King.
I pray this concept will
saturate each of us, uncovering perhaps the enemy's greatest
work -- human achievement (and its resulting pride) The "works"
mentality causes us to strive to please the Lord and results in
needless anxiety. With the Lord revealing what's really
important to Him-- the state of our hearts -- we can move into a
new level of grace. If we accept that grace, then we can walk
in that grace.
Lord, thank You for Your great
love, mercy and grace -- and the revelation that sets us free.
We shall know the truth,
and the truth shall make us free -- John 8:32(KJV)
